The motorway
and trunk road network in England includes 17000 structures. Colin George, who
leads the Highways Agency’s structures team in the East of England, will look
at the wide ranging challenges associated with managing and maintaining an
ageing bridge stock. These challenges range from vehicle impact, fire and
vandalism to corrosion and concrete contamination. Examples of dramatic structural
failures, component failure and common defects will be examined in the
presentation.
