Rototek aims to be a world leader in technical rotational moulding of plastics, offering the complete service to their customers from concept to finished product.

With a portfolio of over 100 products ranging from simple 1 litre water containers, through to mouldings up to 7m in length and 3m diameter (some of the largest rotational mouldings in Europe), the multi award winning team at Rototek will show us their recent developments since moving to their current premises.

Wednesday, 5th December, 7.30pm, NSK Offices ‘The lifecycle of a Hydraulic Model’ – Kirsty Manning, Veolia Water Nevis


Kirsty is a Technical Coordinator for Veolia Water Nevis, a division of Veolia Water, and will give an illustrated presentation on network design and the building, development and use of hydraulic models within the clean water environment.

Keith Gascoigne is celebrating 50 years as a bowyer and 21 years of KG Archery.  The first bow Keith produced was the KG Nemesis named after the goddess of divine retribution, very soon to follow was the Paragon the world’s first all carbon bow handle this bow has won many awards starting with the 1993 UK Rural Development Innovation award for the use of Carbon in a bow handle. The Paragon Carbon handle with KG Carbon Limbs combination went on to win both Silver and Gold medals in the Paralympic games in Atlanta 1996 Sydney 2000 and in Athens 2004 Gold again.

We will be given a tour of the Factory showing construction of Olympic standard bows and arrows, followed by a mini tournament in the indoor practice range.

The Annual Skittles Match against the Nottingham Society of Engineers and Derby Society of Engineers. Each Society is to be represented by a team of 10, and a buffet supper will be provided at a suitable point in proceedings, for a charge of £5.50. Wednesday 13th June 2012, 6.30pm - Visit – Duke’s Wood oilfield, Eakring


Duke’s Wood and the area around it was the location of the UK’s first onshore oilfield, set up in secrecy during the Second World War to produce high quality oil as an alternative source to oil tanker conveys which were east prey to the German U-boats. It was said to be Sir Winston Churchill’s greatest secret. A visit to Duke’s Wood has been arranged with a talk being given by the Curators and a follow up walk around the nature trail which includes relics from the former oilfield.

NEW TIME AND DIRECTIONS Wednesday 9th May 2012, 6.00pm The Grange, Newark Road, Cotham NG24 3RJ Visit - Solar Farm

Approaching from the North (Hawton), the solar farm is nearer to Cotham than Hawton. On leaving Hawton there is a bend in the road and on the inside of this bend there is Pykett’s Transport. One to two miles further turn into "The Grange" on the right hand side with a gated entrance and the parking place will be signposted.


We will be given a tour of the facility, ably assisted by LARK Energy.

Wednesday 14th March 2012, 7.30pm - NSK Offices, Northern Road NG24 2JF - Lecture – “A46 Project Update” – Aidan Brannan of Balfour Beatty

The A46 Newark to Widmerpool dualling project is now drawing to a close.The Society visited the Project Office in March 2010 shortly after the work started, since which time the work has considerably advanced, including the Christmas 2010 installation of the new railway bridge at Bingham, for which the project team was highly commended in the 2011 Institution of Civil Engineers East Midlands Merit Awards.





Wednesday 22nd February 2012, 7.30pm - NSK Offices, Northern Road NG24 2JF - Lecture – “Building the Bourne to Saxby Railway” – Stewart Squires



The Bourne to Saxby railway, opened in 1893, was one of the first to have a comprehensive set of photographs taken as a record of its construction. These provide an early and literal snapshot of civil engineering at that time, with a mix of traditional techniques and the latest technology.

Wednesday, 1st February, 7.15pm - Millgate Museum - Talk – “Buses and Coaches in the Newark area” – John Marshall

John will give an illustrated talk describing the developments in public transport in the Newark area during the 20th century. This is the annual joint meeting with the Newark Archaeological and Local History Society.
