Wednesday 15th February 2017, 7.30pm - NSK Offices, Northern Road NG24 2JF - “Artificial Joints” – Joby John

Joby John is an orthopaedic surgeon at Kings Mill Hospital, training in the Medical School in Bangalore, the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Nottingham, and Derby.  He holds Fellowships in France and Canada and has a PhD on unicompartmental knee replacements. His interests are hip replacements, knee replacements and reconstruction of ligaments and revision(redo) operations, and will talk on the engineering complexities of these procedures.

Wednesday 18th January 2017, 7.30pm - NSK Offices, Northern Road NG24 2JF - “What is flavour” – Dr David Baines Ph.D, CChem, FRSC, FIFST, FRSPH


David Baines has been operating his consultancy, Baines Food Consultancy Ltd, since 1997 specialising in food flavourings with specific expertise in flavours derived during cooking processes.

He has worked worldwide to generate greater flavour impact in processed food products. He runs a course entitled ‘Creating Thermal Process Flavours’ and also provides bespoke flavour courses for food industry clients and flavour companies.

He is author of several papers and book chapters, named on five patents, co-edited the book ‘Natural Food Additives, Ingredients and Flavourings’ and is a co-editor of the internet flavour bulletin, ‘Flavour Horizons’.  He is the originator and inspiration behind the highly successful flavour raw materials exhibitions held annually in Amsterdam and biennially in Singapore.

He is a past President of the British Society Flavourists, a member of the Technical Committee of the UK Flavour Association and Chairman of the Western Branch of the Institute of Food Science & Technology.
