Wednesday, 14th November, 7.30pm Visit to KG Archery, Landmere Works, Chapel Lane, Walesby NG22 9NS

Keith Gascoigne is celebrating 50 years as a bowyer and 21 years of KG Archery.  The first bow Keith produced was the KG Nemesis named after the goddess of divine retribution, very soon to follow was the Paragon the world’s first all carbon bow handle this bow has won many awards starting with the 1993 UK Rural Development Innovation award for the use of Carbon in a bow handle. The Paragon Carbon handle with KG Carbon Limbs combination went on to win both Silver and Gold medals in the Paralympic games in Atlanta 1996 Sydney 2000 and in Athens 2004 Gold again.

We will be given a tour of the Factory showing construction of Olympic standard bows and arrows, followed by a mini tournament in the indoor practice range.

Wednesday 10th October, 7.30pm at NSK, Northern Road. ‘Managing and Maintaining our Bridges Infrastructure’ – Colin George

The motorway and trunk road network in England includes 17000 structures. Colin George, who leads the Highways Agency’s structures team in the East of England, will look at the wide ranging challenges associated with managing and maintaining an ageing bridge stock. These challenges range from vehicle impact, fire and vandalism to corrosion and concrete contamination. Examples of dramatic structural failures, component failure and common defects will be examined in the presentation.

Friday, 15th June, 7.00 for 7.30pm “The Royal Oak” Car Colston - Annual EMESA Skittles Match

The Annual Skittles Match against the Nottingham Society of Engineers and Derby Society of Engineers. Each Society is to be represented by a team of 10, and a buffet supper will be provided at a suitable point in proceedings, for a charge of £5.50. Wednesday 13th June 2012, 6.30pm - Visit – Duke’s Wood oilfield, Eakring

Duke’s Wood and the area around it was the location of the UK’s first onshore oilfield, set up in secrecy during the Second World War to produce high quality oil as an alternative source to oil tanker conveys which were east prey to the German U-boats. It was said to be Sir Winston Churchill’s greatest secret. A visit to Duke’s Wood has been arranged with a talk being given by the Curators and a follow up walk around the nature trail which includes relics from the former oilfield.
